Where can I download the app?

Simply search for the free “KU Business Career Plus” in the Apple or Google Play stores and download.

Which events should I attend?

We’ve categorized our fall events to help you prioritize opportunities that most align with your unique career goals and stage in the career development process. Use the tracks to determine which events are best for you. See the “Tracks” section to review detailed descriptions of our program tracks.

What is the recommended attire for career events?

For most events, everyday student casual attire is acceptable and encouraged - come as you are! Exceptions to this are noted in the event descriptions. Some events require business casual or professional attire.

Do I need to RSVP?

Yes! We recommend planning ahead and registering your participation via Eventbrite for events that you plan to attend.  In some instances, events have attendance caps and students not registered will unfortunately be turned away.  Your RSVP helps with our event planning and catering, and also allows us to provide event-specific details to registered attendees. There are a few “drop-in” events where no RSVP is needed. These are noted with the “Drop-In Event” track in the Business Career Plus mobile app.

If you are participating in Business Career Plus as part of the Business School Experience (Bus 110 or Bus 210), it is especially important for you to RSVP to reserve your spot at events. Plan ahead! It is not the responsibility of the Business Career Center to ensure availability at events late in the semester.

Is there an attendance policy if I RSVP?

Attendance is strictly enforced for mock interviews, company field trips and lunch and learn events. Students can cancel their participation simply by logging into their Eventbrite account, but communication is necessary out of respect for our employers’ time and to allow other students to participate. No shows for these events are subject to the Business Career Center No-Show policies. Please contact our office at kubuscareer@ku.edu if you need assistance cancelling your participation for any of the above-mentioned events.

How do I check in at events?

Business Career Services will use electronic check-in at events. We encourage you to memorize your KU student ID or have the information handy for efficient registration of your attendance.  When you arrive at Business Career Plus events, be prepared to check in at a kiosk. Records of your participation at events will be maintained in KU Career Connections.

Are there other apps that you recommend?

Yes! We strongly encourage you to also download the free “Careers by Symplicity” app in the Apple or Android stores. This app is a mobile or tablet version of KU Career Connections. This app will serve as the primary app for the Accounting and Business Career Fairs, allowing you to research employers and view event maps in advance. The Careers by Symplicity app will also enable you to apply for internships, full-time jobs and on-campus interviews.

Business Career Plus Event Track Descriptions:

We've conveniently categorized our events into tracks to help guide your participation. Below are descriptions of our fall Business Career Plus event tracks. Several tracks may apply to you. Sort by program tracks in the Events & Tracks section of our app. We look forward to seeing you at our events.

BUS 110: Participation in these events will fulfill the Business Career Plus requirement (one event) for the Business 110 First Year Experience course. These workshops are designed to facilitate exploration of business career paths and majors. As a freshman, these events will help you explore career options according to your personal interests as well as help you decide on a Business major.

Bus 210: Participation in these events will fulfill the Business Career Plus requirement (two events) for the Business 210 Second Year Experience course. These events are intended to provide you with direct interaction with organizations that hire KU Business graduates or leverage outside speakers on a range of career topics to give you a broad career perspectives in a lecture or panel format. These events will help you confirm your career interests, broaden your career perspectives and meet some great employers along the way!

Employer Interaction: These career events will provide direct interaction with industry representatives! These events maximize your personal contacts and provide first-hand exposure to Business career paths.

New Business Admits: Events in this track are designed to help new business admits and transfer students ramp up their career skills. These workshops will address foundational career management topics that will assist new business students manage their careers.

Internship/Job Search: Are you seeking an internship or full-time job? These events are for you! Attend to expand your network, enhance your outcomes and land the gig you want.

Majors & Industry Exploration: These programs are designed to help you explore business majors, career functions and industries. Whether you're still deciding on a major or simply want to learn more career options within your area of study, these events will help.

Career & Life Skills: These events will enhance your knowledge of career and life skills, giving you the confidence that you need to approach your career.

Business Career Plus Certificate:All events with the Business Career Plus Certificate tag qualify towards completion of the Business Career Plus Certificate. See this section of our app for more details.

Announcements & Deadlines: This track includes B-School events that are not hosted by Business Career Services, as well as general dates of interest. We think they're great opportunities or worth noting, so want to share them with you here.

Drop-In Event: These events do not require advanced sign-up. Stop by to participate. Come as you are!

International Students: These events are created specifically for international students and are designed to optimize career strategies for success for individuals needing employment sponsorship.

 

Business Career Plus Certificate:

Students who complete a series of five qualifying career milestones are eligible to receive a Business Career Plus Certificate.  This is a great option for recently admitted Business students and Business minors.To achieve the Business Career Plus Certificate, complete the following:

  • Attend a Creating an Effective Resume workshop
  • Attend a Mastering the Interview workshop
  • Attend an Internship/Job Search 101 workshop
  • Complete a Mock Interview
  • Participate in a Career Advising Meeting with a BCS Career Advisor

Workshop dates, times and descriptions are outlined in the Business Career Plus app.  Once you've completed all five activities, fill out the Business Career Plus form and submit it to our office. We'll verify your participation and let you know when your certificate is ready for pick-up.

In addition to the certificate of completion, you will also receive a Jayhawk or KU Business lapel pin (your choice).

Students may build upon participation in Business Career Plus events and the Business Career Plus Certificate for the Career Advancement Program and University Employability Certificate offered by University Career Center

KU Business Career Plus Certificate Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is eligible to participate?

The Business Career Plus Certificate is open to all students enrolled in business coursework, including Business minors. This certificate was designed as an option for those students who have not taken BUS 210, Business Career Fundamentals.

How do I sign up to pursue the certificate?
There is no official sign-up process. Simply participate in each of the five career milestones and complete the online form to inform us of your program completion. We'll verify your participation and contact you once your certificate is ready for pick-up in our office.

Is this program for academic credit?
No. The KU Business Career Plus Certificate is a non-credit program intended to enhance your degree through professional development. The certificate is not formally recognized by the University of Kansas and will not be noted on your academic transcript.

Can I put this certificate on my resume?
Yes! Completion of the certificate indicates you are serious about your professional development. Completion of our Business Career Plus Certificate Program reflects an investment in your career. It takes time, planning, commitment and prioritization to fulfill the certificate requirements. Once you've achieved the certificate, we encourage you to note the program on your resume. A sample bullet description is below. Feel free to use this or come up with your own description. This can be included in a variety of places on your resume.

Can I substitute other events or count a meeting with my career consultant toward the certificate?
No. Due to the volume of students involved in this program, we cannot make substitutions. Sorry!

How many programs have I already completed?
Please keep track of your own participation. Our staff may not be able to respond to attendance inquiries in a timely manner. We use a kiosk check-in at our events and you can also see which programs you have signed in to by going to “My Account" then scrolling to “Activity Summary" on the top right of the KU Career Connections home page.

Do all B-School events count towards the KU Business Career Plus Certificate?
No. We encourage you to attend as many B-School events as possible, and they will be listed in our app. For the Business Career Plus Certificate, we have selected a sequence of events that events that cover foundational career management skills. Select and sort by the “Business Career Plus Certificate" track to verify which events will count towards certificate program completion.

Can I complete the Business Career Plus Certificate over multiple semesters?

We encourage students to complete all five career milestones during a single semester, although participation can extend across multiple semesters.

How do I sign up to meet with a Career Advisor?

How do I sign up for a Mock Interview?

Employer-led mock interviews are held each semester. Sign-up’s are facilitated through KU Career Connections.

Do I need to sign up for the workshops?
