About the Green Team
In 2009 the School of Business nominated Mark Strand, Assistant to the Associate Dean, to serve as the school's ambassador to the university's Center for Sustainability. Mark quickly realized the scale of this responsibility and rallied a team of staff and faculty volunteers to form the Green Team. The Green Team works to education and engage the students, staff and faculty of Summerfield Hall on three key initiatives:
- To increase recycling rates in Summerfield Hall.
- To strengthen individual commitments to resource conservation by encouraging students, staff and faculty to turn off lights and computers when not in use, conserve office supplies and use less paper.
- To promote a shift toward more sustainable methods of personal transportation such as walking, biking or using public transportation.
Create Green Good Fortune
Everyday opportunities to create green good fortune:
- Recycling will make you happy. Recycle your paper, cans and bottles at the 1st, 4th and 5th floor recycling stations in Summerfield Hall.
- Duplex print to save paper. Set your printer to duplex and ink-saving settings to save money and forests.
- Coffee is better in your own mug. You will save money and trees when you bring your own coffee mug to the Summerfield Hall Koch Commons.
- Blackboard saves trees. Encourage professors to work electronically with Blackboard, Facebook and email.
- Hike it or bike it to class, for a future of good health. Your walk or bike ride to campus will benefit you and the planet.
- Knowledge is free when you borrow a book from the 4th floor book exchange. The alcove bookshelves are there for your use, take a book or leave a book.
