Our AACSB-accredited accounting program will arm you with the tools you need to propel business forward. Often referred to as the language of business, accounting provides a foundation to serve you in a variety of roles.

The opportunities for accounting professionals are diverse and limitless. An accounting skillset opens doors to jobs with public accounting firms, corporations, governmental entities and more. The accounting major provides specialized training and makes you more competitive in the job market.

Course information

The accounting degree program requirements for the accounting major have changed, effective fall 2023. These updates provide students with more flexibility and the ability to choose electives that complement their career aspirations.

Students who have declared an accounting major before fall 2023 can opt into these new degree program requirements.

    Required courses

    • ACCT 320/323: Intermediate Accounting I
    • ACCT 325: Managerial Accounting II
    • ACCT 410/411: Intermediate Accounting II
    • ACCT 425: Accounting Information Systems
    • Three accounting (ACCT) electives
      • ACCT 313: Financial Analysis and Analytics
      • ACCT 330: Introduction to Taxation
      • ACCT 515: Accounting Professional Communications
      • ACCT 543: Introduction to Auditing
      • ACCT 545: Advanced Taxation

    More electives will be added for the 2023-24 academic year, including the topics below. These classes might be listed as either ACCT 300 or ACCT 500, a “Special Topics in Accounting” course.

    What if I want to get the CPA license and/or MAcc?

    If you would like to pursue the Master of Accounting graduate program and/or CPA licensure, you need to take ACCT 330: Introduction to Taxation and ACCT 543: Introduction to Auditing as two of your three elective choices.

    Many accounting graduates start at public accounting firms in an audit, tax, or advisory role. Others start their careers in industry, in positions such as internal audit, financial reporting or financial analysis. As an accountant, there will be ample opportunity for advancement. Alumni work in a wide variety of positions, including controller, vice president of finance or chief financial officer.
