Access, Belonging, Respect and Success
The KU School of Business and its Impact Programs team works to amplify prospective students' access to a KU Business degree.
This includes programming and initiatives to nurture students' transition into the School of Business, additional academic support for students and community outreach.
- Nearly 100 students engaged in MSP Scholars Program in Business for 2023–24 academic year;
- Establishing of annual IDEALS event: The event, open to all KU students, creates a space to celebrate all identities while fostering learning opportunities;
- Organizing of formal application process to take delegation of KU Business students to National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE); the application is open to all KU School of Business students:
- Seven students attended the 2023 conference in New Orleans, and members of the school’s DEIB team presented at the conference;
- Another delegation of students attended the 2024 conference in Honolulu;
- Hosting of information webinars for school’s Summer Venture in Business and MSP Scholars Program in Business: Prospective students and their families receive program details and can interact with current students, staff or faculty;
- Presence at KU student-recruitment events;
- Partnership with Enrich Scholars, an online career prep platform;
- Ongoing various trainings and tablings for School of Business students centered on well-being, support and resources;
IDEALS 2025
The School of Business' Impact Programs team will host the 2025 Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access and Leadership Summit (IDEALS) on Friday, March 7, at Capitol Federal Hall.
Featuring insights from both campus and corporate partners, IDEALS 2025 will center on strategies and best practices for fostering inclusivity in diverse communities. This event is tailored for KU students, particularly those in the School of Business or with an interest in these topics.
MSP Scholars Program in Business
The MSP Scholars Program in Business is a unique scholarship and mentoring program that seeks to create opportunities for students to excel academically, professionally and personally. Through the implementation of intentional interactions, this program caters to holistic student development.
Program benefits include alumni and faculty mentoring, individual and group meetings, professional networking and development opportunities, and social programming. The ultimate goal of this program is to retain and graduate underrepresented students, and to connect them with post-graduate experiences that lead them to a successful career of their choice.
The program helps students from the following backgrounds:
- First-generation students
- Pell Grant-eligible students
- Students from rural or Title I Kansas high schools
- Students from Greater Kansas City area
Summer Venture in Business
Summer Venture in Business is a pre-college summer academy housed in the University of Kansas School of Business for high school students who are interested in the field of business.
The goal of this program is to familiarize high school students with aspects of the college experience in and out of the classroom. It will serve as a pipeline program for students to access academic resources and opportunities at KU. In addition to exposing participants to business topics, the SVB aims to equip students with the tools and knowledge for applying to the university, succeeding in college and prospering in their careers.
Transfer student support
The KU School of Business Impact Programs team provides specialized support to students transferring into the school.
The school offers welcome events for transfer students during the first week of the semester. Transfer students also receive customized support for the BUS 210 course that's part of the required Business Professional Development Program courses.
