Program information

Today’s global marketplace continues to evolve at a fast pace as emerging technologies disrupt industries ranging from healthcare to finance to retail. Various professions, including accounting, finance, and supply chain management, advocate for greater development of cutting edge knowledge of the capabilities and operations of business information systems.

This minor program will enable business students who are not majoring in information systems to study the applications and capabilities of information systems and enhance their overall business knowledge.

Choose 5 from the following options:

  • IST 320: Fundamentals of Software Development (Cross-listed with BSAN 320)
  • IST 325: Systems Analysis and Design (Not open to students with credit in BSAN 325)
  • IST 326: Database Management Systems (Not open to students with credit in BSAN 326)
  • IST 330: Fundamentals of Business Computer Networking (fall only)
  • IST 401: Mgmt of Integrated IS/ERP (Not open to students with credit in SCM 404) (spring only)
  • IST 405: Contemporary Information Technology Topics (fall only)
  • IST 410: IT Project Management (not open to those with credit in BSAN 410 or MGMT 472) (fall only)
  • IST 435: Information Security (spring only)
  • IST 495: Foundations Business Analytics

A minor in information systems provide graduates a broad understanding of information systems management. Students learn the basics of telecommunication, business computer applications, database management, and analysis and design of business systems.

The information systems minor is a perfect complement to any business degree in today's information-rich society. In addition, the minor will appear on transcripts, thus showing potential employers that the student has a working knowledge of information systems.
