Who can serve as mentor?

Our mentoring opportunities are open to KU School of Business graduates and other business professionals.

Choose the program that works for you

Facilitated by a program coordinator, you can choose to be matched with one or two mentees based on your availability. Matches also are based on career paths and interests, industry, preferred meeting methods and more.

You'll meet monthly from November through May after attending a mandatory orientation to learn about expectations, program updates and how to ensure a successful mentoring experience.

You don't have to be a KU Business graduate to participate. KU Business mentoring opportunities are open to KU School of Business graduates and other business professionals.

How to join

Mentors must sign up by October 8, 2024. However, early applications are encouraged to help determine the number of admitted mentees. Participation varies depending on need.

  1. Set up your profile on mentoring.ku.edu.
  2. Create an alumni profile.
  3. Navigate to the “Connect” tab, and choose “Mentoring Programs.”
  4. Select “KU Business Mentoring Program.”
  5. Click the green “Join Program.”
  6. Once approved, click the “Connect” tab, and choose “Community” from the drop-down menu.
  7. You will be contacted by the program coordinator to join a mandatory orientation session to learn how to select your potential mentors. Mentors will be contacted regarding their participation.

Mentorship duration

The formal program runs from November to May. Mentors should expect to meet with their mentee(s) a minimum of six times (at least once per month for 30-60 minutes), working together to choose suitable meeting times.

  • Mentors who cannot participate in the formal, six-month program may choose may choose from other opportunities listed on the registration form when joining the program.

Orientation and check-ins

Mentors are encouraged to attend an online orientation program.  Dates and times of the orientation will be sent once mentor registration is complete.

Mentor feedback ensures a successful experience for everyone. Mentors will receive a mid-program check-in and post-program survey.

KU Connect, also known as “flash mentoring” is a collection of alumni and professionals in the mentoring platform. Students can select the KU Connect tab to connect with individuals with relevant interests and experience.

This program allows mentors and mentees to meet for a one-time, 30-minute session via email or in person to discuss specific career and/or industry topics.

Students will be able to view your profile and can message you about connecting.
