Innovations in Business and Ph.D. Education

The purpose of this session is to create space for mutual learning—both for us to learn from our doctoral alumni and for alumni to learn from one another. Together, we will explore strategies for engaging undergraduate and master’s students in research and increasing awareness of the doctoral program as a viable and rewarding path. We also will examine innovative approaches to addressing the current challenges facing business Ph.D. education.

Discussion questions:

  • What major challenges are currently affecting business schools and doctoral education, and how are you addressing them?
  • In what ways can we engage undergraduate and master’s students in research to strengthen their critical thinking and communication skills and encourage consideration of a doctorate? What additional strategies are effective for recruiting talented doctoral students?
  • What approaches best prepare doctoral students for the demands of today’s academic job market?
  • How can business schools better support doctoral students’ well-being throughout their programs?
