Dana Anderson Knock on the Window Award

The KU School of Business has named Sean Anderson, a spring 2026 finance and accounting graduate and incoming Master of Accounting student from Manhattan, Kansas, as the 2026 recipient of its Dana Anderson Knock on the Window Award.

2026 award recipient building a legacy of leadership and service at KU

Sean Anderson found more than a degree at KU. He found a community, opportunities to lead and experiences that helped shape his future.

Originally from Manhattan, Kansas, Anderson earned bachelor's degrees in accounting and finance from the KU School of Business, along with minors in human resources and entrepreneurship. In fall 2026, he will continue his education at KU as a Master of Accounting student.

As a student, Anderson immersed himself in campus life both inside and outside the classroom. He participated in The Catalyst entrepreneurship program, served as a teaching assistant for ACCT 200 Financial Accounting and took advantage of the School of Business' professional development opportunities. Those opportunities led him to internships with H&R Block and Grant Thornton.

One of the most influential parts of his KU experience was the KU Marching Jayhawks. What began as a way to meet people during his first year grew into a defining leadership opportunity. Anderson served as drum major, leading the band during performances while helping create a welcoming and memorable experience for fellow students.

"It's such a good program," Anderson said. "I got an immediate group of friends and sense of community freshman year."

Anderson credits the support of KU faculty and staff for helping him balance academics, leadership responsibilities and professional experiences. Through those opportunities, he developed the skills and confidence that prepared him for internships and future career goals.

He says the relationships and sense of belonging he found at KU have left the biggest impression.

"Lawrence has a special vibe, and KU does too," Anderson said. "Everyone is so connected and willing to help. Just being a Jayhawk is something you can bring to the table no matter what."

As he begins his graduate studies, Anderson continues to embody the spirit of the Knock on the Window Award through his leadership, involvement and commitment to helping others succeed.
