What got you interested in your field, and what is the most rewarding part of being involved in it?
A mishandled will and estate matter in my family sparked my interest in law at a young age. That experience instilled in me a strong desire to protect not only my loved ones but also others facing complex legal challenges.
The most rewarding part of my job is working with the students. I enjoy finding creative ways to make the content of my courses interesting and engaging.
What is your favorite part about being a Jayhawk?
Although I’ve only been a Jayhawk for a little bit, I’ve already come to love the school spirit and the energy on campus. I’m also enjoying living in Lawrence and experiencing all the great restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops!
What would you see yourself doing if you weren’t a professor?
Definitely a novelist. Unfortunately, I don’t have the talent for it.
What advice would you give your college self?
Study hard, have fun, and go on adventures.
If you could require students to read one thing before graduation (outside of your class reading), what would it be and why?
Poetry. Perhaps some Mary Oliver. It’s good for the soul.
