Professor receives lifetime award from American Marketing Association group

Murali K. Mantrala, Ned Fleming Professor of Marketing, has received a 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Retailing and Pricing Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association (AMA).

The award recognizes scholars with at least 20 years of post-doctoral academic experience who have made significant research contributions in the field of retailing and/or pricing. Mantrala was recognized Aug. 5 during a virtual Special Interest Group reception of the 2021 AMA Summer Academic Conference. 

Mantrala’s research contributions encompass both retail and pricing, and span the topics of pricing under retail category management, forecasting of fashion product adoption, retail markdown pricing, and subscription pricing in two-sided platforms. His work has been published in top academic journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Marketing Letters, and Journal of Interactive Marketing. Mantrala has served as co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of Retailing and serves on the editorial boards of multiple leading marketing research journals.

He is a professor emeritus of the University of Missouri, Columbia. Mantrala has been a visiting professor at various universities, including the S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research in Mumbai, India, and the Indian School of Business. He also has previously held roles as the J.C. Penney Associate Professor at the University of Florida, manager at ZS Associates, and regional sales manager at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, in Mumbai, India.
