Biography

Although born in Atlanta, Georgia, Michael Dunlap is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, where he spent most of his life. Before coming to KU, Dunlap served as a certified life coach and academic advisor at Maryville University in St. Louis for three years. He joined the KU School of Business Impact Programs team in September 2024 after serving as a KU academic advisor for two years.

Dunlap graduated with a Bachelor of General Studies in education and history, with honors, from the University of Missouri–St. Louis, earned his Master of Arts of strategic communication (IMC) and leadership from Maryville University, and is currently working on his doctorate in sport management at KU. Upon completing his doctorate, he would love to work in, research, and teach about the business and management of professional or collegiate volleyball.

Dunlap lives in Lawrence with his wife, Jayna (a pre-health advisor at KU), and five cats. Outside of work and research, he enjoys spending time with Jay and the kitties, watching or playing sports (volleyball and basketball are his favorites), coaching volleyball, listening to audiobooks, and playing video games with Jay (they each have their own system).
