Dean's Business Fellows Program curriculum

From day one, Business Fellows join a collaborative cohort, connecting coursework with hands‑on learning as they build skills and grow together in a shared first‑year experience.

A connected start to your KU Business education

The Dean’s Business Fellows Program is a structured, two‑semester experience designed to support your transition into the KU School of Business. Fellows move through key foundational courses together as a cohort, building connection and consistency from the start.

The curriculum combines shared coursework with mentoring and co‑curricular experiences that reinforce what you learn in the classroom and deepen your engagement beyond it.

During the fall semester, Business Fellows enroll in the following required courses as part of their cohort experience:

  • ACCT 200: Fundamentals of Financial Accounting lecture (all Business Fellows)
  • ACCT 200 lab (by cohort)
  • BUS 150: Market Foundations of Business (by cohort)
  • BUS 110: Introduction to Professionalism (by cohort)

These courses are required components of the KU School of Business degree curriculum and provide a common academic foundation for all Business Fellows.

In the spring semester, Fellows continue their shared academic experience with the following required courses:

  • ACCT 201: Managerial Accounting I lecture (all Business Fellows)
  • ACCT 201 lab (by cohort)
  • BUS 210: Career Management and Planning lecture (all Business Fellows)

Together, these courses build on fall semester learning and continue the cohort‑based structure established during the first term.

In addition to coursework, Business Fellows participate in program‑wide experiences that extend across the academic year, including:

  • Peer mentoring and faculty or staff mentoring opportunities
  • Co‑curricular programming that complements first‑year business coursework
  • Study abroad opportunities, when applicable

These elements are designed to support students academically and help them engage more fully with the KU School of Business community during their first year.
