Former president, CEO of Ford Alan Mulally to present 2016 Chandler Lecture

LAWRENCE — Alan Mulally, former president and CEO of Ford Motor Co., will deliver the University of Kansas School of Business Anderson Chandler Lecture at 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Lied Center.

The lecture, titled "Creating Value," will be presented in partnership with the School of Engineering’s Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) Program. The event is free and open to the public.

Mulally, a KU alumnus, served as president and CEO of Ford and as a member of its board of directors from September 2006 to June 2014.

Before joining Ford, he served as executive vice president of Boeing Co., president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes and president of Boeing Information, Space and Defense Systems.

He has been recognized throughout his career for his contributions, industry leadership and service, including being named No. 3 on Fortune's "World's Greatest Leaders" and one of the "World's Most Influential People" by TIME magazine. He has been honored with the American Society for Quality's medal for excellence in executive leadership, the Automotive Executive of the Year Award and the Edison Achievement Award. He was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in July.

Mulally serves on President Barack Obama's Export Council, and he was named to Google's and Carbon3D's boards of directors. He served as co-chairman of the Washington Competitiveness Council and has served on the advisory boards of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the University of Washington, the University of Kansas, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of England's Royal Academy of Engineering.

He has also served as president of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and as chairman of the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association.

Mullaly has a bachelor's degree and a Master of Science in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from KU, and earned a master's degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow.

The lecture series is named for Anderson Chandler, a KU School of Business alumnus and one of the first alumni to be honored with the School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award. Chandler, who makes the lectures possible each year, is chairman and CEO of Fidelity State Bank & Trust Co. of Topeka.

Previous Chandler lectures featured Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback, FBI agent and KU School of Business alumnus Robert Herndon, and former Kansas Gov. Bill Graves.

The SELF Program was established in 2007, made possible by a gift to KU Endowment from Madison “Al” and Lila Self.
