Business dean announces faculty leadership appointments
LAWRENCE — University of Kansas School of Business Dean L. Paige Fields announced the appointments of several faculty members to leadership positions and the restructuring of the school’s academic areas.
Susan Scholz is the school’s new executive associate dean, and Chris Anderson is the new associate dean of undergraduate programs. An associate dean of graduate programs will be named at a later date.
In addition, the School of Business will move from having four academic areas to five:
- Accounting
- Analytics, Information and Operations Management
- Finance
- Management and Entrepreneurship
- Marketing and Business Law
With the reconfiguration, Fields announced the appointments of three faculty members to area directors. Ted Juhl is the new director of the Finance academic area; Kissan Joseph is the new director of the Marketing and Business Law academic area, and Steve Hillmer is the director of the new Analytics, Information and Operations Management academic area.
Clint Chadwick serves as director of the Management and Entrepreneurship academic area, and Keith Jones serves as director of the Accounting academic area.
“I feel confident that this restructuring will best support the School of Business moving forward, especially as we continue our process of developing a strategic plan to advance the stature and impact of our school,” Fields said. “We have a strong group of faculty leaders, and I am thankful for their willingness to serve in these roles.”
Fields began her tenure as the school's 12th dean in July 2017. The new appointments were announced to faculty and staff toward the end of the fall 2017 semester and went into effect with the start of the spring 2018 semester.
Scholz, professor of accounting and Porter Faculty Fellow, previously served as the school’s associate dean of faculty development and research. She holds a doctorate in business administration from the University of Southern California, and she joined the School of Business faculty in 1997. Her research interests include financial accounting, financial restatements, and the market for auditing and consulting services.
Anderson, Anderson W. Chandler Professor, previously held the role of director of undergraduate programs. He earned a doctorate in financial economics from the University of Pittsburgh and master’s degrees in business and economics from the University of Iowa, and he is a chartered financial analyst (CFA). He joined the School of Business faculty in 2000, and his research interests include capital markets, corporate finance, international finance and real estate.
Juhl is a professor of business economics who joined the School of Business in fall 2017 after serving as chair of KU’s Department of Economics. He earned his doctorate in economics and master’s degrees in economics and applied statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Juhl has taught at KU since 1999, and his research has focused on econometrics.
Joseph is a professor of marketing and Stockton Faculty Fellow. He holds a doctorate in marketing from Purdue University and earned a master’s degree in physics from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi. He has been a member of the business school’s faculty since 1993. Joseph’s research interests include compensation design, pricing and issues at the marketing-finance interface.
Hillmer, a professor of decision sciences and supply chain management, earned his doctorate and master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began teaching at KU in 1977, and his research interests include applied statistics, time series analysis, and quality management.
