As the University of Kansas continues to monitor COVID-19 and make adjustments accordingly, we wanted to provide updates related to the Business Career Services (BCS) office. Please continue to check coronavirus.ku.edu for the most up-to-date information from the university. In addition, the School of Business will be providing school-specific updates at business.ku.edu/covid-19-information.

It has always been the priority of Business Career Services to make resources available to business students virtually, primarily through the BCS website and HireJayhawks.com. We also wanted to share additional information for the immediate future about services provided by the BCS office.

Existing career advising appointments

If you have an appointment that has already been scheduled, you will be contacted by a career advisor who will inquire about your preference for a phone or zoom meeting. Dial-in or zoom meeting details will be provided before your scheduled meeting time.

New or rescheduled career advising appointments

  • All new or rescheduled appointments must be made online through HireJayhawks.com.
  • Go to HireJayhawks.com and log in as a student using your KU credentials.
  • From the homepage, select “Schedule a Career Coaching Appointment,” which can be found under “What would you like to do?”
  • Follow the prompts to select a career advisor and meeting time.
  • Your appointment will be confirmed through our front desk.

Prior to your scheduled appointment, a career advisor will contact you directly with a zoom meeting link, unless you have specifically requested a phone appointment. Zoom is accessible via smart phone, tablet, or computer. Instructions for using it are available here (PDF)

On-campus interviews

All on-campus interviews are in the process of being transitioned to a virtual format. We are working with employers regarding upcoming interview schedules.

Please look for more information from our office and/or the recruiting contact regarding next steps. We’ll communicate more information to scheduled candidates as it becomes available. If you have questions about an interview that was scheduled through Business Career Services, please contact Cheryl Webb at cwebb@ku.edu

Mock interviews

We are working to transition mock interviews to a virtual format. If you are currently scheduled for a mock interview, you will be contacted with instructions soon.

Career workshops & events

Adjustments have been made to the following programs:

  • Canceled: Exploring Careers in IS, Analytics and Accounting on March 18
  • Canceled: Exploring Careers in Accounting and Finance on March 24
  • Virtual/Zoom: Mentoring Orientation Sessions (various dates)
  • Canceled: Developing an Effective Resume on April 6
  • Canceled: Exploring Careers in Marketing and Sales on April 15

The EY SAP Boot Camp has also been postponed until fall. Please check Eventbrite for updates about other planned BCS events.

HireJayhawks.com

Job and internship searches are mostly done virtually. Visit HireJayhawks.com to search postings from employers specifically looking to hire Jayhawks. We’ll continue to add new opportunities routinely and will highlight additional websites for your internship or job search in the weeks ahead.

Big 12 Virtual Career Fair on March 25

This event is not impacted by COVID-19 and is a great virtual recruiting option to keep your internship and job search active. Over 100 employers are participating, hiring for both internships and full-time opportunities. Event details, employers attending and student registration information can be found here. Look for more details about this event in a separate communication later this week.

Internship scholarship

We are extending the deadline for the Internship scholarship until March 31. Our scholarship resource pool is available to assist students who are completing unpaid internships and/or are facing relocation and housing expenses associated with an internship experience.

For all additional BCS questions or assistance:

Email kubuscareer@ku.edu. Our departmental account will be checked regularly and questions will be routed to the appropriate member of our team. We will do our best to respond efficiently. You are also welcome to contact our career advisors directly.

BCS will be featuring a different virtual career resource each week. Look for helpful tools and tips in your inbox.

We are in a fluid situation, but we are committed to helping you advance your career goals during this time. Keep watching our social media accounts (@KUBusCareer on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) for ways to utilize our tools during this time.
